Strength When You’re Weak

8 Jan

It’s been seven months since my last blog post… Seven long, challenging and life-changing months.

I chose not to write during this time because I didn’t believe I was in the right place, spiritually, to offer anyone else spiritual counsel. In fact, I’m still not there yet.

But, the difference is, I now realize that it’s in the time that you are at your weakest that you can actually find strength — through helping someone else up. It’s the times when you think YOU need help that you should actually reach out and help someone else. It may seem ironic but it makes sense.

So… here’s my thought for today:

In your weakest moments, be someone else’s strength. At your lowest point, help someone else up.

Have a great day!! 🙂

Beauty Everywhere

9 Jun

Finally dusting the cobwebs off my fingers…

Haven’t written in a while as I’ve been SWAMPED with WORK, WORK and MORE WORK. That’s the nature of life I guess… just have to be able to strike a balance.

I truly love this post “Beauty Everywhere” which was contributed by one of my dear readers as part of the Christspiration Photography challenge. I love it because not only does it capture the beauty of God through nature but it also captures the ‘obedience’ of things in nature. Everything aligns itself with the seasons. The leaves disappear from the trees during fall to make way for the winter.
If only we would be just as obedient…
Food for Thought

God Through My Eyes

Inspired by the beauty of God’s hand around us, Chistspiration is a great idea!

These photos are from two recent walks.  Taken with iPhone, so not as good quality as if it were my camera, but still came out pretty nice.

God’s Way…

28 May

God's Way...

In everything you do… always be mindful that GOD has a plan for your life… which may not necessarily align with the plans YOU have for your life. At the end of the day, trust that he will lead you where you ought to go along life’s road.

Chain Mail

24 Mar

I don’t usually do this sort of thing but someone shared this email with me and I just wanted to share it with you. Even if you’ve seen it a million times, maybe today’s the day it could make a difference. Feel free to pass it on…

Something to think about when you think you’re having a bad day.

Man: God, can I ask You a question?

God: Sure

Man:  Promise You won’t get mad …

God: I promise

Man: Why did You let so much stuff happen to me today?

God: What do you mean?

Man: Well, I woke up late

God: Yes

Man: My car took forever to start

God: Okay

Man: at lunch they made my sandwich wrong & I had to wait

God: Hummmm

Man: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call

God: All  right   Man: And on top of it all off, when I got home ~ I just want to soak my feet in my new foot massager & relax. BUT it wouldn’t work!!! Nothing went right today! Why did You do that?

God: Let me see, the death angel was at your bed this morning & I had to  send one of My Angels to battle him for your life.  I let you  sleep through that

Man (humbled): OH

GOD: I didn’t let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.

Man:  (ashamed)

God: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn’t want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn’t afford to miss work.

Man (embarrassed):  Okay

God: Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn’t even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Man (softly):  I see God

God: Oh and that foot massager, it had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn’t think you wanted to be in the dark.

Man: I’m Sorry God

God: Don’t be sorry, just learn to Trust Me…. in All things, the Good & the bad.

Man: I will trust You.

God: And don’t doubt that My plan for your day is Always Better than your plan.

Man: I won’t God. And let me just tell you God, Thank You for Everything today.

God: You’re welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I Love looking after My Children.

REPOST  if you believe in GOD

Growing Where You’re Planted

19 Mar

Life is always full of twists and turns… It’s unpredictable.

One thing I’ve learnt and am still learning is the necessity to embrace everything that comes your way — the good, the bad, the ugly. Everything has value in life. It is up to you to identify the value of every thing and every experience.

Learning to grow where you’re planted is essential. I’ve seen many persons complaining about where they are in life and moping and fussing about everything they wish to change.. I too have been guilty of this countless times. In the midst of it all, complaining does no good. It only prevents us from enjoying the gift of the present. We immerse ourselves in what we wish and hope for and miss everything along the way. We also miss out on opportunities to GROW in our current station in life.

I believe at every stage of our lives we should aim to advance in some way. Be it in wealth, health, maturity, knowledge, wisdom, virtue; whatever it may be… the possibilities are endless. I also believe God equips us not only with the tools necessary for growth but the conditions necessary for growth.

Take for example the cactus.

The cactus is known to grow in arid soils. How is this possible? It is fully equipped with the water retentive cells it needs to survive these harsh conditions. More importantly, these supposedly “harsh” conditions are the conditions it requires to thrive. Similarly, in life we may be faced with seemingly “harsh” conditions. But, if we take a minute to examine these conditions closely, we may realize that for a particular season or throughout the course of our lives, these conditions are necessary for our growth. So, rather than complain and wine and mope during “harsh” times, ”My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials” – James 1:2. Never allow negativity to undermine the value of your experience. Instead, turn every test into a testimony and declare this daily:

“On the other side of every setback is opportunity. On the other side of every offense is growth. The difficulties you face are not there to defeat you. They are there to increase you.” – Taken from Every Day a Friday by Joel Osteen

At the end of the day, the important thing is to learn to grow wherever you may be planted.

What You SHOULDN’T Give Up for Lent

4 Mar

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and all the world is abuzz about what will be given up for Lent.

But, I’m here to list three things that you SHOULDN’T give up for Lent. Here goes:

  1. Hope: Never give up hope. The concept of “giving up” something or fasting has a lot to do with building what is often dubbed as “stick-to-it-iveness” aka endurance. This means that even though the journey may be rocky, you never lose sight of the aim or purpose nor should you ever lose hope that God will take you through. So for Lent, the first thing you should hold near and dear is hope.
  2. Patience: You may have a hold on being hopeful. Your faith may be unwavering. However, your belief may be such that you are expectant of the desired results IMMEDIATELY. That’s commendable, but you also ought to exercise some level of patience to allow God to work things out in HIS timing; which may not necessarily coincide with yours.
  3. Kindness: Often we focus on giving up things that we may be excessively/habitually engaged in. For example drinking, smoking, etc. But, have you ever stopped to think about what else you may have in excess that you can give up? Try to find at least three things to part ways with during the next forty days and feel free to share your story with me (Ping back to this post). Share…

There are also a few things we ought to give up during this time — the main one would be, giving up.

For Lent I choose to give up on giving up. No more throwing in the towel or raising the white flag. I will be more purpose driven and determined and not flee at the first sign of resistance or difficulty.

What will you be giving up this year? Let me know in the comment box below, should be interesting to hear all the different perspectives.

Ten Things You Must Give Up to Move Forward

27 Feb

In my devotion this morning, I placed before God some challenges I have been encountering lately. I love that God hears my prayers and I love it even more when His response seems to be immediate and spot on (and favourable).

Shortly after I prayed I came across these ten tips, which essentially hit the nail right on the head with regard to the concerns I placed before Him.

So, rather than keeping it to myself, I decided to share. So here are the top ten things you MUST give up to move forward:

  • It’s not what others think, it’s what you think about yourself that counts.
  • You have to do exactly what is best for you and your life, not what’s bet for everyone else.

This point is number one for a reason. Way too often we allow the opinions of others (both negative and positive) to chart the course of our lives. Now, I’m not saying the opinions of others can’t be useful at all but at the end of the day, never act merely based on a person’s opinion; act based on what you think/know is BEST for you and most importantly always pray about it.
For example, I am sure we have all encountered situations in our lives when we may have had to seek advice. “Advice” is merely a person’s opinion, but at the end of the day we still had to make a decision regarding what action or steps we would take to address whatever the situation may have been. In making this decision we have/had to make it on the basis of what is best for us. In fact, in seeking advice 99.9% of the time we already know the solution, we just need confirmation.

  • Your past does not equate to your future.
  • All that matters is what you do right now.
There should be no shame associated with past failures. The operative word is “past”. The fact that you failed simply means you have an opportunity to learn a lesson which WILL bring you closer to achieving your desired goal/outcome.

“Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” ―     Winston Churchill

  • You will never leave where you are until you decide where you would rather be.

“If you don’t know where you are going, any road can take you there.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

  • Make a decision to figure out what you want, and then pursue it passionately.I believe one of the main fruits of indecision is a lack of passion. Unless you are passionate about something you will only be lukewarm. You won’t be actively involved in bringing an idea to life or fulfilling a desired goal.

  • There are two primary choices in life: a) to accept conditions as they exist, or b) accept the responsibility for changing them.
  • The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” ―     Laozi

  • You don’t get to choose how you are going to die, or when.
  • You can only decide how you are going to live, right now.
  • Every day is a new chance to choose.

This quote from  Inferno sums this point up nicely:

“And I — my head oppressed by horror — said: “Master, what is it that I hear?  Who are those people so defeated by their pain?”
And he to me: “This miserable way is taken by the sorry souls of those who lived without disgrace and without praise.
They now commingle with the coward angels, the company of those who were not rebels nor faithful to their God, but stood apart. The heavens, that their beauty not be lessened, have cast them out, nor will deep Hell receive them — even the wicked cannot glory in them.” ―     Dante Alighieri

  • Aim for success, but never give up your right to be wrong.
  • Giving up your right to be wrong will make you miss an opportunity to learn new things and move forward with your life.
Never let pride stand in the way of your success.

” Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” – Proverbs 16:18

  • Stop running!
  • Face these issues; fix the problems; communicate with, appreciate, forgive and love the people in your life who deserve it.running from a problem or an issue will not cause the problem or issue to cease existing.

As I always say: “If you sweep dust beneath a carpet, eventually it will rise.”

  • Most long-term failures are the outcome of people who make excuses instead of decisions.Often we make excuses about all the things that are preventing us from moving forward. Upon closer examination of these things we will realize that there are simple solutions to each and every single one of them. I think part of the problem is, we often try to bare the burden of our journey by ourselves. Too often I see depicted a single person ascending a stairway as the image of the journey to “success”. But I think this captures the idea of this journey more aptly:
The road to success is not paved by individual action but is merely the end result of the integrated efforts of everyone who helped you along the way. So, the next time you think of making an excuse, stop to think about possible solutions and never hesitate to seek assistance if you lack the resources or capabilities to generate said solution. And again, always remember to pray.

  • What you see often depends entirely on what you’re looking for.
  • You will have a hard time ever being happy if you aren’t thankful for the good things in your life right now.
If all you focus on is the negativity in your life, then you will tend not to see all the good things you have been blessed with. So the next time you start complaining, take a moment to be thankful. For example a relative of mine was complaining about her shoes, only to pause and realize that having shoes to complain about is actually a blessing.

  • Too often we try to accomplish something big without realizing that the greatest part of life is made up of little things.
